Family, Relational & Individual therapy

About me
With over 40 years of experience as a therapist, I continue to be deeply moved by
the transformations I witness: more peaceful lives, fewer futile arguments, and the
powerful repair of meaningful connections. As a Dutch/British therapist, I work
fluently in both English and Dutch, supporting individuals, couples, and families of
all ages.
I specialise in relational and family therapy as well as individual therapy, drawing on techniques from Relational Life Therapy and The Work by Byron Katie. These approaches help you not just understand your patterns, but actively shift how you relate to others and to yourself. Unlike traditional models, Relational Life Therapy encourages active participation from the therapist: I may take a side when needed or share a personal story if it serves your growth. Together, we’ll practice how to look, how to listen, how to speak, and how to validate the people in your life.
Therapy isn’t limited to the session itself. It’s about how you show up at home and at work. That’s why you can expect practical tools, guided exercises, and homework because meaningful change takes practice.
I offer sessions in-person in Amsterdam and Friesland, or online, and am a committed, engaged partner in your process.

Focus
When working with families, couples or individuals I focus on the interactions with others and where those interactions become painfull or toxic. People have their automatic reactions towards others. The source of our automatic reactions lie in how we reacted and adapted to the forms of stress we encountered as children. We learn to adapt, to fix, to fight or to fly from a situation that is stressfull. We are hard-wired in our responses to stress. The brain does not differentiate between situations by its self, it needs the slow thinking part of the brain to analyse the difference.
Taking responsibility for our own evasive patterns and learning how to allow yourself time to think and feel before responding enlightens a relationship, it changes the way you respond en feel towards others and towards yourself. Clients do feel better about themselves and their self image when they react differently than their
knee-jerk responsive mode.
Taking a time-out is often a better approach to repair than to continue in disscussions and messy fights where no one feels understood or heard.
After a couple of sessions clients take more time to respond, the stress levels are lower and the important work of repair and re-connection can begin.
